Days after NASA leader, Raila Odinga, called for the boycott of Safaricom in his strongholds and even leading his supporters to migrate to Airtel, Safaricom has reported big loses with Airtel recording an upsurge of subscribers.

This was revealed by Airtel Manager in charge of South Nyanza region, Robert Mayabe, who confirmed the company was experiencing a surge in the number of clients in the Counties of Kisii, Homa Bay, Migori and Nyamira.

In Kisii for example, Mayabe confirmed that Airtel was registering an average of 900 new subscribers per day after area Governor James Ongwae paid for the services.

“We are targeting 1,500 clients per day for three days to register in Kisii.”

“We have a backup of 800 more SIM cards in case of shortage and later move to Nyamira and Migori Counties,” the Airtel Manager said.

On the other hand, more than 11,000 new subscribers have switched from Safaricom to Airtel in Homa Bay County since the boycott begun.
